2017 Taipei 29th Summer Universiade at the NPM

The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco Becomes
the First-Ever Sister Museum of the National Palace Museum.

On July 3, the National Palace Museum (NPM) held a press conference announcing that it and the Asian Art Museum (AAM) of San Francisco were to officially become sister museums. Both NPM Director Lin Jeng-yi and AAM Director Jay Xu attended the press conference and signed a memorandum of cooperation in the presence of Jesse Curtis, the cultural affairs section chief of the American Institute in Taiwan, and various press conference participants.

2017 Taipei 29th Summer Universiade at the NPM

In October, there In response to the upcoming Summer Universiade, the NPM will host the “Fantastic NPM Bears” special exhibition from August to October, displaying “sporty bears” made out of materials such as bronze, jade, and porcelain. Visitors will be able to appreciate all together the skilled craftsmanship of the captured facial expressions and vivid moments of the limbs.

※The Jadeite Cabbage will be displayed at Gallery 106 of the NPM Northern Branch from Aug. 1 to Oct. 31 2017. During this period, guided tours and commentary will not be allowed inside Gallery 106.

Musée d'Orsay: The Aesthetic Worlds of the 19th Century

Due to high popularity,
exhibition has been extended to 8/28.

Located on the Seine and obliquely across from the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay was once praised as the most beautiful museum in Europe, and mainly collects Western art works from the 1848 to 1914 period. This exhibition is in celebration of the Musée d'Orsay’s 30th anniversary, with a special selection of 69 representative works displaying various 19th century European painting styles ranging from Romanticism, Classicism, Impressionism, Realism, to Symbolism, etc. Works include masterpieces by Delacroix, Millet, Monet, Degas, Pissarro, Renoir, Van Gogh, and Gauguin. Visitors can skip a visit to France yet still wander the left shore, directly interacting with the aesthetic world of grandmasters.

An Exciting Exhibition Preview

The Making of a National Treasure: Select Masterpieces of Painting and Calligraphy in the Museum Collection

In October, there will be a limited-time display of 34 national treasure level painting and calligraphy works and 11 important antiquity level painting and calligraphy works. The time period spans the 4th to 18th centuries, including works by Wang Xizhi, Emperor Huizong of Song, Zhao Mengfu, Bian Wenjin, Wang Hui, and other masters. It is a rare opportunity, and the NPM wholeheartedly welcomes everyone to make the most of this golden opportunity to closely appreciate the beauty of these famous national treasures.
