The National Palace Museum Resigns a Memorandum of Cooperation with the City University of Hong Kong, Aiming to Further Their Cooperation in the Field of New Media Art Exhibition

On Sept. 18, 2017, the National Palace Museum (NPM) resigned a memorandum of cooperation with the City University of Hong Kong to build on the relationship that they have established in 2014 and the nearly 70,000 visitors whom they had attracted to the City University of Hong Kong during the Rebuilding the Tong-an Ships: New Media Art Exhibition (held in 2015) and the Giuseppe Castiglione: Lang Shining New Media Art Exhibition (held in 2016). In the future, the two organizations will further the depth of interdisciplinary new media art exhibitions to elevate the visibility of the said organizations on the international stage.

In addition to attracting numerous visitors from various communities, the Giuseppe Castiglione: Lang Shining New Media Art Exhibition, co-curated by the two organizations, won the Highest Achievement Award at the Festival of Audiovisual International Multimedia Patrimony (F@IMP 2.0; hosted by the International Committee for Audiovisual and New Technologies of Image and Sound (ICOM–AVICOM)) in 2016, the Grand Remi Award (category: Best of Show – Interactive) and the Gold Remi Award (category: Websites) at the 49th WorldFest-Houston International Film & Video Festival (in 2015), and the Silver Award (category: Interpretative Interactive Installations) at the 2016 (27th) MUSE Awards (held by the American Alliance of Museums), producing impressive results.

The NPM indicated that after resigning the memorandum of cooperation, the NPM and the City University of Hong Kong will actively introduce digital work at new media art exhibitions as well as host domestic and international exhibition tours to facilitate exchanges of new digital knowledge between staff from the two organizations as well as explore novel digital media interaction-based knowledge and technologies. In addition, the NPM will continue to strengthen its exchanges and cooperation with domestic and foreign schools by establishing a relationship with these educational institutions from home and abroad. The objective is to connect the NPM with the rest of the world.
